
UWItv Global and Government of Grenada Forge Strategic Media Partnership
UWItv Global, the official public information arm of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is excited to announce a strategic partnership with the Government of Grenada through its Government Information Service (GIS) aimed at enhancing collaboration in media and communications. The partnership was formalised on February 21 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to leverage academic and professional resources between Grenada’s GIS and UWItv.
The MOU ceremony occurred during the 48th Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads which is currently being held in Barbados and broadcast live via UWItv. Prime Minister and Minister of Information of Grenada, The Honourable Dickon Mitchell signed the agreement alongside Vice-Chancellor of The UWI, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles.
Commenting on the collaboration, Vice-Chancellor Beckles stated, “UWI is unique in having a 24/7 educational channel dedicated to Caribbean people and culture while engaging with the world. I am especially proud that UWItv is responsible for covering these types of government meetings annually, disseminating content worldwide to international networks. We are honoured to play this role in serving the Government of Grenada.”
Prime Minister Mitchell commented, “The opportunity for the Government Information Service to collaborate and benefit from the institution that is The University of the West Indies and UWItv is a natural and welcoming relationship.”
UWItv Global is a multimedia platform that facilitates interactive streaming through its website. It broadcasts live on cable channels in 20 countries, including Panama and across Latin America, reaching over five million viewers through FLOW, the region’s leading telecommunications provider.

This milestone agreement establishes a mutually beneficial collaboration that strengthens Grenada’s media landscape while contributing to the wider Caribbean’s knowledge-sharing ecosystem. It reaffirms the University’s commitment to regional development and innovation in broadcasting, marking a transformative step forward in public education, advocacy, and media development throughout the Caribbean.
Combining UWItv’s academic and technological resources with GIS’s public broadcasting expertise, this partnership enhances regional media capacity and fosters a deeper understanding of key socio-economic issues.

- Development of specialised media programs focusing on regional priorities such as climate resilience, public health, and cultural preservation.
- Training and capacity-building through internships, joint workshops, and seminars for technical staff and media professionals.
- Advancement of research and collaboration on media technologies, audience engagement strategies, and digital broadcasting.
- Exploration of innovative solutions, including artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, to enhance media operations and digital content production.
