On Wednesday, November 30, H.E. Beate Stirø, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Jamaica and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) visited The University of the West Indies (The UWI), to advance discussions on the University’s work in the areas of climate action, sustainability and the region’s blue economy.
Her Excellency met with University Registrar, Dr Maurice Smith at The UWI’s Regional Headquarters in Mona, Jamaica. The hour-long visit was a follow-up discussion on the progress of an MOU between The UWI and the University of Bergen (UiB) in Norway signed in 2021 to formalise ongoing collaborations, on research and action on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals 13 (Climate action) and 14 (Life Below Water). That MOU signing ceremony took place aboard the Norwegian, Statsraad Lehmkuhl training vessel which docked at Jamaica’s Port Royal as part of its One Ocean Expedition’s historic 55,000-mile world voyage.
