BOOK LAUNCH: Professor Canute Thompson Unveils ‘Reimaginative Leadership’ at The UWI
In the rapidly changing landscape of the twenty-first century, a new approach to leadership is essential. Professor Canute Thompson, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Undergraduate Studies and an Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership expert, offers a fresh perspective on this pressing need, particularly within the Caribbean context. His latest work, Reimaginative Leadership: Concepts and Applications, provides a unique lens to examine the dynamic relationship between leaders and employees.
The University of the West Indies (The UWI) will host a book launch and reception to celebrate the release of Reimaginative Leadership. The hybrid event scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, will be held physically at The UWI Regional Headquarters in Jamaica starting at 4 PM. UWItv will broadcast the event live via its web platform and Facebook page.
Professor Thompson also serves as Director of the Caribbean Centre for Educational Planning at The UWI Mona Campus, an entity he cofounded. He is an experienced author, recognised as a leadership coach and a certified management consultant and has played a vital role in establishing both the Caribbean Leadership Reimagination Initiative and the Caribbean Centre for Educational Planning.
In this, his ninth book, he presents an insightful guide that aims to equip leaders and workers with the necessary tools to navigate the complex challenges that modern organisations face, emphasising the importance of rethinking traditional approaches in favour of more inclusive and adaptive strategies.
Published by The University of the West Indies Press (UWI Press), the University’s in-house not-for-profit scholarly publisher, the book is divided into three segments that explore the origins, nature, and practical applications of a reimagined approach to leadership. It emphasises care, courage, trust, and accountability in meeting the evolving expectations of the modern workforce. Building on his previous works, including “Leadership Reimagination: A Primer of Principles and Practices” (2013) and “Locating the Epicentre of Effective Educational Leadership in the 21st Century” (2015), Professor Thompson articulates nine core concepts that underpin this new leadership theory.
The launch programme will feature remarks from institutional and national leaders and reviews and commentaries from Professor Thompson’s colleagues. Professor Ann Lopez, from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, Canada will deliver a keynote address and the event will conclude with Professor Thompson’s reflections and responses as the author.
Copies of “Reimaginative Leadership” will be available at the event and can be purchased currently at the launch and via UWI Press.
